night has fallen and the air has only gotten colder...
inside burns a roasting fire,
a family is gathered around the smoking embers
laughing merrily, ignoring the winter storm outside.
in the comfort of being surrounded by loved ones,
it is warm and the terrors of the dark night are forgotten.
earlier the snow had fallen, the children went outside to play -
sticking their little tongues out and tilting their heads back,
catching snowflakes, reaching their palms out and watching the snow fall.
now the wind has caught and the innocence has vanished,
leaving behind a wall of thick clouds and heavy snowfall.
crouched by the window of the house, huddled deep into his jacket in the cold,
sits a boy, looking into the window at the warm, happy family.
his eyes seek out a girl, his girl,
and his chilled lips form a smile as he mouths her name.
he can barely see through the frosty glass and the blustering snow,
but it's enough to know that while he's locked outside,
